8 Days Danakil Depression and Afar Expedition

Day 1 — Addis Ababa → Bishoftu → Awash National Park → Doho

Drive from Addis Ababa through Bishoftu, enjoying the beautiful crater lakes. Continue toward Awash National Park and Doho, where you will stay overnight at Doho Lodge.

Enjoy the natural Doho hot springs and relax in the evening.

Day 2 — Doho → Semera → Lake Afdera

After breakfast, continue north through the spectacular Afar landscape, passing the famous palm-tree areas on the way to Semera.

Continue toward Lake Afdera, one of the remarkable salt lakes of the Danakil region.

Overnight: Lake Afdera — camping/lodge

Day 3 — Danakil Depression: Erta Ale

Begin the Danakil Depression expedition and travel toward Erta Ale, the famous volcanic landscape.

Experience the dramatic desert scenery, depending on conditions and access, visit the volcano area, and enjoy the spectacular night atmosphere.

Overnight: Camping in the Danakil Depression

Day 4 — Erta Ale → Dallol

Continue deeper into the Danakil Depression toward Dallol, famous for its colorful mineral formations, salt landscapes and extraordinary geothermal scenery.

Explore the surrounding area with your expedition team.

Overnight: Camping

Day 5 — Danakil Depression Exploration

A full day exploring the extraordinary landscapes of the Danakil Depression, including salt flats, volcanic formations and local Afar surroundings, subject to local conditions and access.

Return to camp and enjoy the final evening in this unique desert environment.

Day 6 — Danakil → Semera → Adama

Leave the Danakil region and drive south toward Semera and Adama.

After the long expedition, enjoy a relaxing evening in Adama with free time to rest, enjoy the hotel facilities and have some fun.

Day 7 — Adama → Addis Ababa

After breakfast, drive back to Addis Ababa.

Visit Unity Park and in the evening enjoy an authentic Ethiopian cultural experience at Habesha 2000.

Overnight: Caspia Hotel, Addis Ababa

Day 8 — Addis Ababa City Tour

Enjoy a full-day sightseeing tour of Addis Ababa, visiting some of the city’s major highlights, cultural sites and viewpoints.
