09:00 AM – 11:00 AM – Tour of Gede Ruins
Explore the Gede Ruins (Gedi National Monument), a 12th-century Swahili-Arab city hidden inside a lush coastal forest.
Highlights: Ancient palaces, mosques, coral-brick houses, and the resident Sykes’ monkeys.
(Optional) Stop by the onsite Kipepeo Butterfly Project.
11:30 AM – 12:30 PM – Malindi Town & Vasco da Gama Pillar
Drive into Malindi town for a quick historical stop at the iconic Vasco da Gama Pillar (built in 1498) and the nearby Portuguese Chapel.
12:30 PM – 02:00 PM – Lunch Break (self-sponsored)
Enjoy a traditional Swahili seafood lunch at a beachside restaurant in Malindi (e.g., Karen Blixen Restaurant or Baby Marrow) or a local spot in Mambrui.
02:15 PM – 03:30 PM – Mambrui Sand Dunes & Golden Beach
Head north across the Sabaki River to Mambrui. Walk through the towering, wind-sculpted sand dunes that run right down to the ocean, often called the "Golden Beach" due to the mineral glitter in the sand. (Optional activity) Quad biking across the dunes, archery etc
03:30 PM – 04:30 PM – Drive to Marafa (Hell's Kitchen)
Head northwest through rural Giriama villages and baobab landscapes toward Marafa.
04:30 PM – 06:15 PM – Marafa Canyon Exploration & Sunset
Arrive at Marafa (Hell's Kitchen). A local guide will take you on a walk down into the eroded sandstone gorges narrating the history of the place where you later summarize tour enjoying sunset while taking magical photos.
06:15 PM – Return Drive
Board your vehicle and start the return journey to your hotel.
