09:00 AM – 10:30 AM – Fort Jesus Museum
Start your tour at Fort Jesus, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built by the Portuguese in the 16th century. Explore the museum’s artifacts, ancient cannons, and historic fortifications overlooking the ocean.
10:30 AM – 11:00 AM – Mombasa Old Town Walking Tour
Walk through the narrow streets of Mombasa Old Town. Admire the Arab, Swahili, and Indian architectural influences, carved wooden doors, and local craft shops. Stop briefly by the traditional fish market near the harbor.
11:00 AM – 12:30 PM – Spice Market & Elephant Tusks/Waterfront
Visit the colorful Mackinnon Market (Spice Market) to see local spices, tropical fruits, and traditional Swahili textiles (Kangas and Kitenges). Afterward, stop for photos at the famous Mombasa Elephant Tusks on Moi Avenue, erected to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II’s visit in 1952.
After the market end your city tour at the revitalized Mama Ngina Waterfront. Take in views of the Kilindini Harbor, watch ships pass through the channel, and enjoy popular local snacks like cassava crisps.
12:30 PM – 14:00 PM – Lunch Break
Enjoy a traditional Swahili or seafood lunch at a local restaurant (such as Tamarind Mombasa or Ali Barbour's nearby, or a local spot in Old Town for Swahili biryani and fresh seafood).
14:00 PM – 16:45 PM – Haller Park Excursion (optional)
Drive to Haller Park (formerly Bamburi Quarry Nature Trail), a restored limestone quarry turned ecological park. Walk through the sanctuary to see giant tortoises, giraffes, hippos, and abundant bird species. Tip: Giraffe feeding typically takes place around 3:00 PM.
05:30 PM – Drop-Off
Transfer back to your hotel or original pick-up point.
