06:00 AM – Hotel Pick-Up

Depart from your hotel in Mombasa or the South Coast (Diani/Nyali) in a 4x4 safari vehicle. The drive takes you past rural Kwale landscapes and up into the misty hills.

07:30 AM – Park Entry & Morning Game Drive

Enter via the Shimba Hills Main Gate. Start your morning game drive when the animals are most active. Keep an eye out for:

• Sable Antelope: Shimba Hills is the only wildlife reserve in Kenya where you can see these magnificent, dark-coated antelopes in the wild.
• Elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, and colobus monkeys.
• Rare forest birds and colorful butterfly species.

10:00 AM – Guided Hike to Sheldrick Falls

Meet an armed KWS ranger for a guided forest walk down to Sheldrick Falls.

• Hike details: ~2 km trek (about 45–60 minutes each way) through lush rainforest foliage.
• The Falls: Cool off at the base of the 21-meter waterfall surrounded by jungle canopy.

12:30 PM – Lunch & Relaxed Viewpoint Stop

Head to Shimba Hills Lodge (or a designated scenic picnic site like Pengo Hill) for lunch. The lodge terrace overlooks a forest waterhole where elephants and birdlife often stop by to drink.

03:00 PM – Departure back to the respective resort

Important Notes for Visitors

• Footwear: Wear sturdy sneakers or hiking shoes for the Sheldrick Falls trail, as the ground can be slippery.
• Weather & Attire: Shimba Hills has a cooler, more humid microclimate than the beach; lightweight layers and rain gear are helpful depending on the season.
