Overview

Experience a full African village experience during your day, including language and cooking lessons, lunch, food shopping, waterfalls and springs visits, time in the village gardens and viewing a community support village project.  If all that is not enough you learn how the villagers relax by taking part in dance lessons

This tour covers all the essentials of African cooking. You get to experience shopping in an African market, have a cooking class in African meals and eat a full African meals. If that was not enough to tempt you, you are also given a local language speaking lesson, and an insight into our own history.

Itinerary

Day 1: Thingira Village Visit

After breakfast, we depart for a road trip through the Agricultural-rich Central Kenya highlands to Thingira Cultural Village. Tour highlights include; Cultural experience, tour of the village, Crocodile farm, traditional cuisine and dances. Thingira Cultural Village is a multicultural Village located along the Tana River, North of Nairobi along the Nairobi-Nyeri highway. A visit to this village is travelling into their past. Experience the history of the Local Bantu tribes including the Gikuyu, Aembu and the Akamba.  Feast your senses on the stories, the smells, flavors and images of the living history that will make a lasting impression. Immerse yourselves in the past and get to know the culture of the Bantus of Mt. Kenya and the history of Kenya. After lunch, we proceed to a small village by name Kathiringo Village  at the foot of Mt Kenya in Kirinyaga county for a home stay with a host family.

Day 2 : Full Day Farm Experience

Today, we wake up to the noises of birds in the village. After breakfast, we proceed to the farm. Morning: You will start your day by experiencing working with local farmers in their Tea farms and learn how tea is picked where after you will visit the buying center where you experience how factory clerks do the sorting before buying from farmers. Later on vegetable gardens where you will learn aspects of gardening such as preparing the soil and planting vegetables among other food crops.  You will also learn how the land is prepared, fertilized and how the vegetables are cultivated as well as discovering how they are used in local food. Other activities will include raking, sowing, and watering etc… Afternoon: After lunch, the afternoon is spent at leisure waiting to grab a beer in the local pub in the evening. Overnight with host family.

Day 3: Waterfalls and Cave Excursion

The fresh and clean rural surroundings also have many interesting places to visit eg. The natural soda water collections points where you will enjoy the magnificent view of the fall as you sip the soda water. On this day we shall experience series of waterfalls while also visiting the Mau Mau caves with brief history of the Kenyan Freedom fighters. We will continue to visit other waterfalls and later end our day with a visit to famous Castle Forest Lodge that once hosted Queen Elizabeth for fun and adventure as well as sumptuous lunch served at the Lodge. Overnight with host family.

Day 4: Depart for Nairobi

Say goodbye to the friendly host and leave for Nairobi.
